Short Magazine Lee-Enfield No. III Star
The Short Magazine Lee-Enfield, or SMLE was the standard issue rifle of British Imperial forces in the First World War and into the beginning of the Second World War. This model, a III Star, was first produced in 1916 and was considered a “waretime simplified” version of the rifle that did away with things like volley sights and other “luxuries” that added machine time to production in the midst of the First World War. This example includes an original bayonet, original bayonet sheath, and an available spare barrel chambered in .308 that is not original to the rifle. The last SMLE III Star was produced in 1953 at the close of the British Empire. This rifle really was the rifle that carried the Empire through both World Wars and to its decolonial period.
